Source of funds vs source of wealth: what to prepare and why

Two questions that sound alike but ask for different evidence. Getting them right avoids the most common round of follow-up requests.

Source of funds is about a specific transaction or balance: where did this money come from? Source of wealth is about the person or company as a whole: how was the overall wealth accumulated?

Evidence for source of funds

  • Invoices and contracts behind incoming payments
  • Bank statements showing the originating account
  • Loan agreements or capital contribution documents

Evidence for source of wealth

  • Audited financial statements
  • Sale-of-business or property agreements
  • Tax returns, employment history, inheritance documents

Prepare both before you are asked. A reviewer who receives a complete answer on the first request rarely asks a second time.
